What is a CSA?

Combination of Sisters’ Awesomenesses.

Kidding!

CSA stands for “Community Supported Agriculture” but is often used interchangeably with “CSA subscription.” Our farm is structured around the CSA model and, as such, offers CSA subscriptions to a limited number of members–just 20 in 2019.

The CSA model is powerful for a few reasons. Rather than buying food that you’re familiar with (regardless of season, and many steps divorced from the farmer that grew it,) CSA members invest in a farm upfront by paying their “fees.” The farm then uses these fees to plan a year of growing and harvest. The yields of this farm labor are then divided equally between members, typically on a weekly basis.

By participating in such a system, members are made aware of the ebb and flow of yields, the impact of seasons, and the challenges of one of the most dangerous jobs in the nation. Furthermore, a member is often introduced to new foods, flavors, recipes, and science with every successive year.

Every CSA farm uses this model in their own, unique way. We’ve outlined what you can expect from SisterLand below:

SisterLand Farms CSA Details

SisterLand Farms offers weekly produce to households throughout Port Angeles and neighboring communities. Our CSA season for 2019 will include an estimated 20 weeks of produce delivery beginning in May.

Members will enjoy a direct connection to the farm, eat the freshest and most nutritional produce available, and rest assured that their contributions to SisterLand supports our mission.

Weekly deliveries of fruits and vegetables can feed a family of 2 to 3 people, depending on your produce consumption. The produce you will receive depends on the season, but we’re actively working with other local businesses to supplement your shares with partner-supplied treats.

A sample spring-season share might be:

  • 1/2 lb Turnips
  • 1/4 lb Breakfast Radishes
  • 1/4 lb Spicy Salad Mix
  • 1/4 lb Pea Shoots
  • 1/4 lb Nettle
  • 1 bunch Chives
  • 2 Organic Seedlings to Grow at Home

The sisters at SisterLand Farms put great care into selecting the very best heirloom seeds to start our crops, and focus on food that is interesting, colorful and occasionally unusual. Prepare to explore new veggies you’ve never tried, along with your old favorites.

Membership Scheduling and Perks

We will deliver shares of produce every week; either to your home or to an accessible drop-off location determined in advance. And rest assured that no membership will go to waste! If you will be out of town or unable to pick up your box, you can donate your box to our community food fund and help a family in need.

Our CSA members also receive significant discounts for future Sisterland Farms events, merchandise, and activities. What’s more: You’ll have priority seating at next year’s membership sign-up!

Once you’ve requested membership you have 30 days to remit payment in full or your spot will go to the next person in line.

If you’re out of the area and still want to support Sisterland Farms: We love you! Consider buying a share for donation to a local family in need of nutritional assistance.
